Plan Review
All commercial and residential plan reviews are processed through the code enforcement division, which includes the Fire Marshal's Office.
The Fire Marshal's Office reviews construction plans for new commercial buildings, upfits, additions to existing commercial buildings and Land Development projects that are located within the six incorporated towns in Mecklenburg County.
Plan reviews for buildings and projects located in the unincorporated areas of Mecklenburg County fall within the Extra-Territorial Jurisdiction (ETJ) of the Charlotte Fire Department and are reviewed by their plan reviewers.
Plans or Shop Drawings for fire alarms, sprinklers and specialized systems should be submitted directly to the Fire Marshal's Office electronically via EPM or small Commercial Plan Review. Learn more information on our shop drawing program in the Shop Drawing Submittal Guidelines.
While projects vary in detail the following documents may assist as general guidelines with plan review related questions.
